The NDC Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Hohoe, Worlanyo Tsekpo, has accused the Member of Parliament for the Constituency and Minister for Railways Development, Hon. Peter Amewu of busing Togolese into Hohoe for the voter registration exercise.

According to him, the Togolese were being brought into the Hohoe district from communities in Togo that share a border with Ghana. He alleged that the foreigners were given Ghanaian school uniforms to wear to the registration centre.

“The outgoing MP is busing people…. from Togo to come and register, giving them uniforms to wear to come and register.

“…they [NPP agents] brought people from St Mary’s, Lolobi and they sew uniforms for people, people who are Togolese. [They] gave them Ghanaian secondary school uniforms to come to register. Because when you are in uniform, we allow you to have a quick entry,” Mr Tsekpo told Awakenewsroom in a phone conversation on Thursday, May 9.

The former Bono Regional Youth Organizer also said that on Wednesday, May 8, together with his team, they chased away some foreigners when they attempted to cross the Wli border into the country.

“Yesterday [May 8], we drove some people away. Some people came from Togo and they reached the Wli border, and we had to drive them away,” he stated.

Furthermore, when asked how he determined that the people in the school uniform were Togolese, the NDC PC said, “… we approached them and we realized their accent and the Ghanaian accent, Ewe, are different. And when we persist, they took to their heels.”

Mr Tsekpo, meanwhile, cautioned the Togolese not to be deceived into crossing the border to participate in the registration exercise. He warned that his team would not spare anyone caught attempting to cross. He added that the Togolese have no business voting in Ghana and that only the people of Hohoe will register.

“No Togolese will decide for we the people in Hohoe. Hohoe people will vote for their MP.

“I am telling them that if any Togolese come and we catch him if he comes to Ghana with two legs, he will go back with one. If they are not careful, they will carry them in wheelchairs back to Togo,” he angrily threatened.
