James Gunu, Volta Regional NDC Secretary

The Volta regional secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Mr. James Gunu has cautioned teenagers against giving their mobile phone contacts to NPP pollen agents, while they visit the various registration centers to take part in the limited voter registration exercise .

According to Mr. Gunu, the party has had complaints from their agents at the registration centers that some NPP agents are demanding contacts of the first time registrants.

He noted that, the situation is worrying and could be a threat to these teenagers, during a period that kidnapping issues are prevalent.

“It’s not advisable to give your contact numbers to NPP agents at the limited registration centers amidst rising cases of kidnapp in the country,” he said.

“I want these young ones to desist from giving out their contact details. If the trend continues, then of course, they’re doing it at their own risk,” he added.

Mr. Gunu added further that the NDC within the Volta region is taking keen interest in the registration exercise and have put in place adequate monitoring mechanisms, so as to curtail any delibrate attempt of disenfranchisement.

He urged persons who have attained the voting age across the region to move to the registration centers to get themselves registered.

The limited registration exercise by the EC started this morning across the country after a court injunction on an earlier schedule of June 7th-27th has been dismissed.
