An aspiring Volta Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. George Dake (Zoto), has added his voice for a boycott of the National Identification Card registration by members of the opposition NDC.
He is affirming the party’s position and urging party members in the Volta Region not to register for the National Identification card until government listens to the calls of the minority to include the voter’s ID [ads1]card as a prerequisite for the registration.
The NDC in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia few days ago has called on party members to boycott the exercise as the government failed to consider some of the concerns raised by the minority in Parliament.
Mr. Dake, in an interview with Awake News on some number of issues, said “All NDC members must stay together especially in the Volta Region to avoid the Ghana card without the government allowing the voter ID as an identification to register for the Ghana card.”
“The birth certificate is a ploy to reduce the voter population in the Region by the NPP government for an electoral advantage” – asserts
He emphasized that even members of the party who have either the birth certificate or their passports should equally resist the attempt of registering in solidarity with the party, and to get the government to accept the common identification (voter’s ID) for the registration.
In his opinion, if all members stay away from the registration, it will put more pressure on the government to accept the voter’s ID.
“How many people in the Region has a passport or birth certificate? We must resist until each and everyone can use a common identification form to get the Ghana card, that’s the only way we can get the government to consider the voter’s ID as one of the requirements” – he added
