Let not the Candle Lit by Lordina’s Visit Quench

Choosing a suitable heading for this piece became a hurdle for me. It became so not because my stock of vocabulary had depleted, but because I was overwhelmed by the generosity and the impeccable display of motherly love by the Former First Lady, Her Excellency Lordina Mahama. Let me say that, her generosity though was not limited to only Kintampo South, nonetheless, I got that special feeling that a mother so kind beyond measure, is a daughter of Kintampo South constituency. How proud I am!

Senco Homes

For over one week, Her Excellency has been in the constituency in her mother’s home, Ampoma. During this period, she has engaged in heart-melting activities. Notably, executives from all 11 constituencies in the Bono East Region have had the opportunity to dine and wine with our mother. Not only that, all 1,152 branch executives and ward coordinators in the Kintampo South constituency have also had their turn in the memorable moments with our mother. Equally important, current MPs as well as former MPs, Former DCEs, and CEOs in the region have also shared such important moments with our mother.

But even before she commenced her activities, she earlier on paid a courtesy call to Jema Hena Nana Amponsah Gyan and the Zongo chiefs in Jema. She donated a water pump and hired engineers to install it and also do holistic servicing of the entire water system which provides water for Jema township, Jema Nkwanta and Ampoma. I’m happy to announce that, the installation and the repair works have been completed and the water restored.

I have heard people from the NPP side desperately trying to lay claim to the glory of the restoration of the water system in Jema. To say the least, it is laughable and smacks of a bunch of charlatans parading as a political party in the constituency. The NPP MP and his executives should get serious and stop playing with the intelligence of the chiefs and people of Jema. On this note let me set the records straight on this matter;

1. On Wednesday 17th January 2024, we in NDC were told of Lordina’s coming to Jema and her intention to resolve the water crisis. Let’s not forget that, when JM visited Jema recently, the Chief of Jema among other requests, specifically pleaded with him to assist in repairing the broken-down water system in Jema. So, around 10:30 am that day, I drove to Jema to join other executives to prepare the grounds ahead of Lordina’s arrival. We visited the chief palace to be sure that they were prepared to welcome their daughter. We had exchanged pleasantries with the chiefs who were dressed in their royal regalia and seated already. We informed them that Lordina had reached Techiman and would arrive soon.

2. But by then, an advanced team from Lordina’s convoy had brought a water pump and kept it at the forecourt of the chief palace ahead of her arrival. As we were waiting for her, we saw a white pickup belonging to NPP drove in. In the car and others on motorbikes, were the NPP constituency secretary, organizer, One assemblyman from Jema, media men from the four Radio stations in Kintampo and some faces that I could not readily identify. They
brought out something from the pickup that looked like a water pump similar to the one we had already brought. They went straight to the chiefs and informed them that Hon Alex Gyan the NPP MP had sent them to bring it. It was really funny! The chiefs and everyone gathered there were surprised at their action. The next minute, we saw them arrange for the chiefs’ representatives to grant an interview to the media. We all looked on while they engaged in the drama.

Fast forward, just as they were leaving the palace then Lordina’s convoy arrived. A formal presentation of the pump was made and the engineers who came with her were immediately commissioned to start the installation and the servicing works.

I want to use this opportunity to state emphatically that, Hon Alexander Gyan has no hand in the current maintenance of the water system. The pump that he rushed to donate, I can state without any equivocation, has not been used in the installation. In fact, from unofficial sources, the chiefs are pissed with the conduct of the MP and his party executives. I, therefore, encourage the good people of Jema and Kintampo South to treat their propaganda with the contempt that it deserves. Indeed, if the MP had any good intention to repair the water system, he would have done that much earlier and not wait for Jema chief to beg JM for help only for him to come and engage in such drama.

To our mother Lordina Mahama, others see her as Former First Lady and First Lady in waiting. But for us in Kintampo South, She is our mother and nothing more. We cannot exhaust showing our gratitude for what she has done and continue to do for her homeland.

I will also use this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to Hon Obaapa Felicia Adjei. All these couldn’t have been successful without her express involvement and arrangements. Her return to parliament is predominantly profound. The NPP may try hard to keep the seat and continue to waste it; but we in Kintampo cannot afford to be so ungrateful to our mother Lordina Mahama by failing to do her wish for her.

In conclusion, I will urge all of us, former appointees, former parliamentary aspirants, party members, branch executives, ward coordinators, assemblymen, former constituency executives as well as the current constituency executives, and everyone to get involved in our quest to send Obaapa back to parliament as a reward for her hard work and also as gratitude to our mother Lordina Mahama. And let nobody forget that, His Excellency John Dramami Mahama is coming to power in 2025 and so we will need an NDC MP to foster development.

May God bless Our Mother Lordina Mahama and May God bless NDC.

Mathew Atanga, NDC Communication Officer – Kintampo South Constituency.
