Ahead of the 2019 Parliamentary Primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a group of women calling themselves Concerned Madina NDC Women residing in and around the Madina Constituency yesterday purchased nomination forms for and on behalf of the renowned human rights lawyer, Francis-Xavier Sosu who is a second time running parliamentary hopeful.
The spokesperson of the group, who identified herself as Hajia Maria told Awake News, they believe Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu stands tall among all his contenders and stands a far better chance to reclaim the lost seat from the NPP and whoever they file as their parliamentary candidate.
According to Hajia Maria, “Lawyer Sosu did very well in the last primaries. The people already know him. Aside politics, he has contributed a lot to this country and he is the kind of person we need in parliament to represent us”
“Even NPP sympathizers are willing to vote for him if elected as parliamentary candidate” – She added.
It is not clear which other persons may be joining the race but information available to Awake News indicates that the former National Youth Organizer of the NDC, Sidi Abubakar who many are of the view failed the youth front prior to the 2016 general election may also contest.
In the Madina Constituency NDC parliamentary primaries in 2015, the then incumbent MP for the constituency, Alhaji Amadu Sorogho who has represented the Constituency since 2004 polled 1,738 votes whiles Lawyer Sosu polled 1,486 votes. The other contestants Abdul Rahim Aremeyaw and Baba Ibrahim Mohammed had 454 and 210 votes respectively.
Lawyer Sosu seems the favourite in the upcoming parliamentary primaries being the only one to have contested before.
All attempts to reach Lawyer Sosu have not been successful. Madina NDC Constituency primaries is one of those key ones that must be watched closely.
