The Southern Zone include Akatsi North, Akatsi South, Ketu North, Ketu South and South Tongu districts, are expected to stage an Inter- district sports and games for the basic schools in early August, but the games may not come on as a result of lack of funds.
In an interview with Awake News‘ Abdul-Iddrisu Faisel on Monday, Mr. Roger Tay, the Ketu North District Coordinator, who [ads1]doubles as the Secretary of the Southern Zone Association said preparations are in place to stage the Inter-district games, but the Association is confronted with financial problems because their sports levies which comes from the District Assembly’s common funds has since not been released.
The Inter-district games are supposed to be played between 1st and 4th August, to select contingents to represent the Southern Zone at the Super Zonal games to be played in Kpando, a week after.
“Preparations have been made. All the districts have gotten their contingents, now we’re left with the fund; to fund the competition, the camping and moving to Kpando, and that is where the problem is. We have written sponsorship letters across but we are not able to get anything yet”.
“Today we are supposed to have a meeting to finalise issues but unfortunately, the directors also have a crunch meeting somewhere, so we have to suspend the meeting and probably meet on Monday to see the way forward” he added.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the said monies have been paid into the accounts of the Regional Secretariat, but the monies have since not been released to the zones for usage.
Awake News will follow the story to the later.
