The 2024 Vice Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change, Kwame Owusu Danso, has strongly criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for making what he describes as baseless and politically motivated allegations of drug trafficking and money smuggling at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
In an interview with TV3, Owusu Danso accused the NPP of attempting to claw back political relevance after what he says is a significant loss of public trust following the 2024 general elections.
“What the NPP is doing now is trying to gain relevance and establish their relevance even after they have lost the elections,” he said.
The NPP had recently claimed that two aircraft at the KIA were carrying cocaine and large sums of money. However, Owusu Danso found it contradictory that the party, after making the accusations, would expect the current government to provide evidence to support their claims.
“How is it that you are alleging that two aircraft contained cocaine and money, and yet you are expecting the government to provide the evidence for the allegations that you are making? Does it make sense to you?” he asked pointedly.
He did not mince words when describing the party’s actions as hypocritical, singling out Rev. Ntim Fordjour for propagating the accusations.
“I think the hypocrisy must end because there’s no scintilla of truth in what Rev. Ntim Fordjour is doing,” he added.
Owusu Danso went further to warn political parties against tarnishing Ghana’s image on the international stage for political gain.
“You must not, in the name of establishing dominance, drag the name of Ghana in the mud. As a nation, we must all come together and rid ourselves of the negative attachments that some political parties bring through their mode of communication,” he concluded.
The controversy continues to stir public debate as stakeholders call for restraint and responsibility in political discourse.
