Parliament has granted approval for the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to question two Members of Parliament, Hon. Mustapha Yussif of Yagaba Kubori Constituency and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) of Gomoa Central Constituency, following an official request from the security agency on March 25.

In a letter dated Wednesday, April 2, and signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the legislature confirmed its agreement to the NIB’s request, citing constitutional provisions and public interest considerations.

“Having regard to the limitations of Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic, the existing protocols established with the security and intelligence agencies, and also the public interest, Parliament, in principle, agrees to the request,” part of the letter read.

The two MPs have been directed to appear before officials of the security agency on Monday, April 7, at 10:00 am, with their lawyers.

“The Rt. Hon. Speaker has directed the Honourable Members to make themselves available for the preliminary interaction with your officials in Parliament… The Hon. Members will be requested to have their lawyers present at the interaction,” the letter further noted.
