Veteran Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Student Representative Council (SRC) president at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The award-winning highlife singer, known for his hit song “Bue Kwan,” was recently seen campaigning on the university’s campus, where he engaged with students, including interactions with female students ahead of the upcoming elections on May 30, 2025.
Kwabena Kwabena, who is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at UPSA, has followed in the footsteps of other Ghanaian musicians like Guru, Samini, and Dr. Cryme, who have ventured into student politics in recent years.
His bid for the SRC presidency has generated significant buzz on social media, with many Ghanaians reacting to his campaign efforts.
The musician is the latest in a series of artists entering the political sphere of Ghana’s universities.
Dr. Cryme was recently elected as SRC president at Methodist University, Tema Campus, while Guru won the SRC presidency at the University of Ghana in 2024.
Samini, too, served as the SRC president at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Kwabena Kwabena’s campaign video has been widely shared, and the musician is receiving support from students and fans alike as he prepares for the upcoming elections.
