In a recent interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, has urged the party to prioritize the election of its next flagbearer by December 2025.

Agyepong believes that an early selection will provide ample time for preparation ahead of the 2028 general elections, enabling the party to focus on rebuilding and mobilizing support for a strong comeback.

According to Agyepong, conducting the flagbearer elections promptly will help ease internal tensions within the party and allow it to concentrate on expanding its base and strengthening its internal structures.

“I think we should do it by December this year [2025]. It should be done as quickly as possible,” he emphasized.

Agyepong further explained that electing a flagbearer early would enable the party to build what he termed “constituency caucuses” and ensure that all members rally behind the chosen candidate.

“We would have expanded the base first. We need to build what I’m calling the constituency caucuses. We have executives in place, their mandate hasn’t expired. Once we elect a flagbearer, all members have to support the candidate,” he stated.

Agyepong’s remarks come as the NPP continues to assess its performance in the 2024 general elections and chart its path forward. His call for an early flagbearer election is seen as a bid to revitalize the party’s fortunes and position it for success in the upcoming elections.
