Investigative Journalist and Head of Awake Investigates, Korsi Senyo is set to appear before a Committee set up by the Cheif Justice, H.L. Sophia Akufo to investigate Korsi Senyo’s expose on the Sogakofe High Court last year.
Korsi Senyo is expected to testify before the Committee at the Supreme Court on Awake Investigates’ publication.
“The committee is scheduled to have its first sitting tomorrow at 2:00pm at the Supreme Court. I am directed to respectfully request you to attend the sitting to enable us expedite the matter as directed by Her Ladyship the Chief Justice”- the invitation to Korsi Senyo stated.
[ads1]Awake Investigates in December 2017, uncovered multiple activities of the Sogakorfe Court Registrar, Mr. Mawuli K. Dzah which were suspected to be abnormal. Mr. Dzah allegedly forged some certificates of letters of administration for the family of a deceased and diverted the filing fees, the 3% estate value and other related fees due the state into his personal pocket.
The investigations led by Korsi Senyo revealed that, in one case, Mr. Dzah on 20th November, 2017 signed a Certificate of letters of administration for the administrators of the estate of the late Samuel Akakpo Vormawor without the applicants of the letter of administration (Mr. Daniel Wormawor and Mr. Emmanuel Vormawor) appearing in court and neither did the High Court judge grant the letters of administration.
It was uncovered that Mr. Dzah allegedly forged the Certificate and receipt number VIDE JS. No. 1522255 which on the records was for another applicant in another court case.
The applicants have successfully used the alleged fake certificate to withdraw about GHS76,000 from the deceased’s bank account at Dansoman, Accra.
Awake Investigates also established that Mr. Dzah was paid an initial amount of GHS800 for the court filing fees and subsequently paid GHc6,500 after the money was successfully withdrawn by the administrators of the late Mr. Vormawor’s estate (Mr. Daniel Wormawor and Mr. Emmanuel Vormawor).
In an interview with Awake Investigates’ Korsi Senyo, Mr. Dzah confessed to having prepared the certificate of the letter of administration for the applicants at the blind side of the court procedures and the judge but denied receiving any personal benefit. He explained that he did so to assist the applicants to get funds to file for the necessary court processes.
“Infact, I did this out of humanitarian grounds with no personal benefits. They came to me far back in October this year, but they were not having money to file the processes. They had to go for a loan of GH¢4,000.00 but they came back begging me that the lender gave them only GH¢2,000.00. Meanwhile, that GH¢2,000.00 cannot do this so I was forced to give them Registrar’s authority note….yes, authority note in the form of a certificate….yes, it’s the certificate….so they can go and cash part of the money.” – Mr. Dzah told Efo Korsi Senyo after a member of the Awake Investigates team went to his office to file for search on the case.
“Infact, I faulted” – Mr. Dzah added.
However, in a follow-up interview with one of the applicants, Mr. Emmanuel Vormawor, he insisted that they paid GHc800 being the filing and other fees and were, therefore, not in need of assistance; adding that they had paid all commissions he had requested.
“I don’t understand what is going on. We have paid the Registrar all his monies. We first paid him GH¢800.00 followed by other monies including his 10% commission making a total of GH¢7,300.00. We also paid GH¢5,000.00 to Believer, the man that took us to him[the agent]. We don’t owe him or any bodies any money in this court matter so I don’t know why you [Awake Investigates’ Efo Korsi Senyo] should be calling me on this matter” – one of the applicants stated.
“The Registrar also called us to come to court tomorrow again, but we told him we will not come because we paid him all his money” – He added
Korsi Senyo was the petitioner in the case of the two Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Goergina Opoku Amankwa and Mr. Amudu Sulley who have been impeached for incompetence and misconduct.
He is also the individual who has filed five different suits at the Supreme Court challenging the General Legal Council in respect of its mandate.
