AN APPEALING PRESS STATEMENT BY KONKOMBA STUDENT UNION (KONSU) -GBINTIRI BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL UNION WITH MEMBERSHIP FROM BUNKPRUGU\YUNYOO, CHEREPONI, GUSHEGU,KARAGA AND MAMPRUSI DISTRICTS OF THE NORTHERN REGION ON RECENT HAPPENINGS IN BUNKPRUGU\YUNYOO DISTRICT
Ladies and Gentlemen from the Media, good evening and welcome to this very important press meeting in the District though it’s being hosted here in Tamale.
First of all, KONSU’s wishes to salute the president of the Republic of Ghana H.E for the honour had done them for nominating Hon. JK Alhassan as DCE for Bunkprugu/Yunyoo District.
Ladies and Gentlemen, KONSU’s attention has been drawn to Hon. JK Alhassan’s re-nomination by his Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akkuffo Addo for an onward confirmation after he had failed to secure the required percentage in the first round.
The press, ladies and Gentlemen, KONSU wishes to register our displeasure regarding this unfortunate situation that befell on our member and adds that he should kindly be accepted and confirm by the 48 assembly members by the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo District for onward progress for better citizens, better District and better Ghana under the watch of able Nana Addo the president and Dr. Mahmud Bawumia the vice president.
adies and Gentlemen of the press we deem it worth mentioning that if ever Hon. JK Alhassan has wrong any of the Assembly members including the two Hon. MPs in the District, then KONSU strongly intercedes on his behalf for there is a saying that, ”he who makes no mistake makes nothing.”We are therefore calling on the chiefs, opinion leaders and all those who matter in his confirmation not to rest on the oars but help resolve this matter because we cannot continue to be frustrating the development of the District in the name of confirmation ‘.
JK has love for the Assembly and can do what is expected of him in the District and even be young. Hon. JK, we know was an Assembly Member for Namong electoral area and later became Bunkprugu constituency youth organizer of NPP. He also was Yunyoo constituency parliamentary candidate for NPP in the 2012 general elections and now the DCE nominee put before you for confirmation by H.E the president of the republic of the Republic.
Ladies and Gentlemen, there on earlier media report that if Hon. JK Alhassan was confirmed, there was bound to be insecurity in the District. Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, KONSU wishes to emphatically assert that this media reportage is absolutely false and should be disregarded a such. We emphasis that there is no tension and there will be no tension if Hon. JK Alhassan confirmed because he and the people of Bunkprugu/Yunyoo are peace loving people.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, KONSU sees it essential to state that the cordial relationship that exists among the three tribes –the Bimobas, the Konkonbas and the Mamprusis and other minor District does not deserve to be given the slightest for any mistrust.
The absence of the DCE, in our view, has potential negative effects on education, health and general economic activities in the District most importantly, we noted for grave concern the lack of teachers in the various schools within the District.
Ladies and Gentlemen, KONSU wishes, in conclusion, to respectively appeal to the opinion leaders, assembly members and good people of the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo District to as a matter of urgency to confirm the president’s nominee for development to start without undue delay.
Thank you for coming.
