Mr Aglebe Daniel, father of a 28-year-old Police torture victim, Aglebe Dodzi has said, he wants the law to be applied to its logical conclusion in order for the two Police officers who subjected his son to severe beatings at the Railway Police station in Koforidua.
According to him this matter in order to serve as a wakeup call for other officers who have taken the law into their hands.
He has declined to listen to some perceive chiefs and very important personalities who have waged into the matter to plea for leniency shortly after the media publication.
According to him, the two police officers sergeant Amoako and lance corporal Marfo have ran to a certain Nana Obudgya Asante II, a sub chief in the New Juaben Traditional Area and a childhood friend to intervene on their behalf.
The two officers have indicated their readiness to compensate the victim with any amount and pay the hospital bill of the victim who was taken to the Koforidua Regional hospital for treatment and discharged in order to settle the matter at home instead of using legal means.
Mr. Aglebe continued that, no amount of money would have saved his son if he had died out of the situation, hence the need to apply the law to bring justice and correction among unscrupulous service personnel.
Notwithstanding the ill treatment, Mr Aglebe disclosed that, Sergeant Amoako and Lance Corporal Marfo took Ghc500 from them before granting his son bail, a situation the law fronts upon.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sergeant Francis Gomado has described the actions of two police officers who subjected a suspect to severe beatings at a police station as barbaric and inhuman.
According to him, “the actions of my colleagues are barbaric, inhuman, unprofessional and outmoded way of getting information from suspects which needed to be condemned with all honesty”
Sergeant Gomado hinted that, the Service would not shield any officer or group of officers who discharged their duties against modern policing and rule of law, adding that, “we are not going to shield them because they are our colleagues”.
