Three citizens of Ketu South, Jackson Agboli from Aflao; Senam Abotsi from Denue and Amen Menuvela from Klikor all in the Municipality have petitioned President Akufo-Addo to create Aflao Municipal Assembly out the “over populated” Ketu South Municipal.
The petition, a copied obtained by Awake News is suggesting Aflao Mucipal “or in the alternative, Somey-Klikor Municipal Assembly should be carved out of Ketu South Municipal Assembly”.
According to the petitioners, the “Ketu South Municipal Assembly has the highest voter population in Ghana before 2012 and 2016 general elections and still has the highest voter population of over 145,000 voters”
Justifying their request, they said
“That Ketu South Municipality has three traditional areas namely Aflao, Some and Klikor which are vast and populous.
That Ketu South Municipal Assembly has 208 polling stations with 39 electoral areas as at today pending new creations by the Electoral Commission.
That Aflao Traditional Area alone has 116 polling stations whilst Some and Klikor Electoral Traditional Areas have 92 polling stations.
That Aflao alone has a population of over 150,000 people which Some and Klikor traditional areas have pollution of over 100,000”
To further press home their request, they ague “that Aflao has about ten banks, 15 hotels, three markets, Diamond Cement Ghana Limited and other business entities to make the new Municipality viable. Some and Klikor Traditional areas have banks, three secondary schools, several hotels, two major markets and salt factory”
For them, “to deepen decentralization process in the area, we believe Ketu South should be split to two – Aflao Municipal Assembly and Klikor/Some Municipal Assembly”

His Excellency The President of The Republic,
We the Concerned Citizens of KETU SOUTH, being registered voters in Ketu South do hereby petition The President of the Republic of Ghana as follows:
- That Aflao Municipal Assembly should be created out of Ketu South Municipal Assembly. Or in the alternative, Somey Klikor Municipal Assembly should be carved out of Ketu South Municipal Assembly.
- That Ketu South Municipal Assembly has the highest voter population in Ghana before 2012 and 2016 general elections and still has the highest voter population of over 145,000 voters.

- That we write this petition following earlier petitions sent by the Paramount Chiefs of Aflao, Klikor and Some Tradtional Areas and Assembly members of the Ketu South Municipal Assembly
- That in 2012, the Creation of Municipalities Instrument, 2011 (E.I. 81) created Aflao Municipal Assembly out of Ketu South Municipal Assembly.
- That to our utter surprise, Local Government (Creation of Municipalities) Instrument, 2012 (E.1. 3) was made to revoke E.I. 81. Aflao Municipal Assembly never came to fruition.
- Wherefore, we appeal to His Excellency Mr. President to carve Aflao Municipal Assembly out of Ketu South Municipal Assembly or in the alternative carve Klikor/Some Municipal Assembly out of Ketu South, if it pleases His Excellency (The President) to exercise his powers under section 2 of the Local Governance Act, 2016(Act 960) as amended to create new districts or municipalities.
