Ketu South constituency primaries in limbo

The party has been dragged to court by a disqualified aspirant in the constituency. The  Ketu South Constituency parliamentary primaries of the NDC is in an indeterminate state after a disqualified aspirant, Jim Yao Morti sued the party and the sitting MP, Fiifi Kwetey.

According to Yao Morti,  his disqualification from the NDC parliamentary primaries is unjustified as he met all the conditions in the party’s guidelines for the election.

According to him during the vetting an issue about a sale of a rented car involving came up. He said he provided all the documentation to support his defense but the party referred the mater to the National Executive Committee for redress.

He said after several weeks the party has not gotten back to him with any response., and he has still not been cleared for the primaries hence his decision to go to court.

The party disqualified  Albert Zigah and Yao Morti while three others including Fiifi Kwetey were cleared to contest the slot.

The NDC’s presidential and parliamentary primaries is this Saturday.

Below are the reliefs being sought by Jim Yao Morti

Plaintiff – Jim Yao Morti Vrs National Democratic Congress, Headquarters, Adabraka Accra (1st Defendant)

The Chairman, Vetting Committee, NDC (2nd Defendant)

The Regional Chairman, Volta Region NDC (3rd Defendant)

Constituency NDC Chairman, Ketu South (4th Defendant)

Hon. Fiifi Kwetey, MP for Ketu South (5th Defendant)

1.  A declaration that the plaintiff has satisfied the conditions set by the 1st Denfendant and is eligible to contest for the Parliamentary primaries of the 1st Defendant in the Ketu South constituency.

2.  A declaration that the action of the 1st Defendant is against the fundamental Human Rights of the Plaintiff and also the Constitution and laid down guidelines of the 1st Defendant when it failed to communicate to the Plaintiff the outcome of vetting in the bid to be elected as 1st Defendant’s Parliamentary candidate for the Ketu South constituency for the 2016 Parliamentary Election.

3. A declaration that the Ghana Police Service has cleared Plaintiff of any wrongdoing and has written letters to that effect and same should not bar the Plaintiff from contesting as 1st Defendant’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Ketu South constituency for the 2016 Parliamentary Election.

4. An order directed at the 1st Defendant to include the Plaintiff in contesting in its primaries for the election of its 2016 parliamentary candidates for the Ketu South constituency.

5. An order of injunction restraining the 1st Defendant, its officials, servants, agents or any person(s) claiming under or through it and/or any of them however described from holding the 2016 Parliamentary primaries of the 1st Defendant in the Ketu South constituency on Saturday 21st day of November 2015 or any date thereafter [as far as the said election has to do with the 2016 Parliamentary primaries of the 1st Defendant at the Ketu South constituency] without the Plaintiff name on the election material to be used as one of the contesting candidates.
