Keta Municipal Hospital gets new wound care centre

Keta Municipal Hospital in the Volta Region has taken a significant leap in healthcare delivery with the inauguration of a new wound care center.

This state-of-the-art facility was made possible through the generosity of Mr Mawuko Dzikunu, the Executive Chairman of Glory Oil Company Limited, who solely funded the project.

Mr Wisdom Seadey, the Assembly member of Anyako Electoral Area and aspiring Keta Municipal Chief Executive, who represented Mr Mawuko Dzikunu during the ceremony, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the new wound care center was also designed to alleviate the challenges faced by wound patients in the hospital while with facility,

“I hope all wound patients can now receive specialised care and treatment to improve their overall health outcomes, which was the primary objective of this support,” he said.

He pledged that more support would be extended to the hospital in the subsequent years for all patients to receive first-class healthcare delivery and urged health workers to use the facility for the intended purposes for the benefit of all.

Dr Emmanuel Kona, Director of the Keta Municipal Health Directorate, who received the items on behalf of the hospital staff, in his remarks during the inauguration ceremony held at the premises of the hospital, described the new wound care centre as a game-changer for the hospital healthcare delivery.

He expressed his gratitude to Mr Dzikunu for his philanthropic efforts, stating that the facility will greatly enhance the hospital’s ability to provide quality healthcare services.

He said that the Keta Municipal Hospital has been serving the community for many years, offering a range of general medical services, and with the addition of the wound care center, the hospital would be better equipped to handle complex wound cases, reducing the need for referrals to other far-distance facilities.

“I really appreciate what Mr Dzikunu did for us, you can see the wound care centre is well equipped with modern medical equipment such as computer, modern beds, air conditioner, BP apparatus and staffed by trained healthcare professionals that we have here.”

Dr Kona said that the inauguration of the wound care center was a significant milestone for the Keta Municipal Hospital, which demonstrated that the hospital was committed to providing high-quality healthcare services to the community.

Dr Kofi Karikari Bonsu, the Medical Superintendent and Surgical Specialist, told the GNA that the hospital previously conduct wound care delivery at the Out-patient Department (OPD) with a lot of challenges and the new centre would provide privacy to the patients.

He explained that the Keta Municipal Hospital has a long history of serving the community, and the new wound care center is a testament to its ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery while with the facility, the hospital was better equipped to handle a range of medical cases, including complex wound cases and patients can expect to receive comprehensive care, including wound assessment, treatment, and management.

He said that the community is expected to benefit greatly from the new wound care centre addition that,” Patients will have access to specialised care and treatment, reducing the need for travel to other facilities, this, in turn, will improve health outcomes and enhance the overall quality of life for community members.”

Mr Mallet Kodzo Gborgblorvor, the Head of the Surgical Department at the hospital, also thanked Mr Dzikunu for the kind gestures and appealed to other philanthropists, group companies, and individuals to solve other challenges, which include inadequate beds and other health equipment.

Some wound patients, GNA engaged, expressed satisfaction about the new facility and urged others to patronise and prioritise its use.

GNA also observed that the new wound care facility was an old hospital building that was rehabilitated and equipped to cater to medical delivery.
