Kenyan seasoned speaker and human rights campaigner, Prof. Jared Akama Onyari is expected to the address the maiden edition of the Ghana Human Right Conference in Accra at the at the Africa Regent Hotel on December 11, 2017.
The conference which is scheduled to mark the United Nations Human Rights Day celebrated globally on the 10th of December annually will [ads1]have other celebrated human rights activists including Prof. Vuckor Quarshie, Dr. Peter Atupare, Mr. Francis-Xavier Sosu as speakers and Hon. Marietta Brew-Appiah, former Attorney General as the special guest of honour.
The Ghana Human Rights Conference is on the theme “Promoting Fundamental Human Rights: A catalyst for accelerated socio-economic development in a free and just society” and is expected to bring together about 200 human rights activists, advocates, promoters and ambassadors from Ghana and other African countries as well as some international partners to advance the issues critical to Human Rights on the African continent and Ghana.
Speaking to Awake News’s Efo Korsi Senyo, the Nairobi based human rights campaigner and peace activist, Prof. Akama Onyari said as Africa is wading through this troubling times, it is very important young people are empowered to become real agents of change in building and sustaining peace in Africa.
“As we wade through these troubled times, young people’s contribution as agents of change in all fronts of the fight for human rights – especially in deterring and resolving conflicts – becomes a key factor in building and sustaining peace in Africa.” – he said.
“It is important for us to realize the demographic dividend and even more so for us to use it to build the continent, to restore human rights, peace and to paint a beautiful history of youth movement in Africa” – He added
In an earlier interview with Awake News, the Director of Communication of YoHRA, Mr. Christopher Ankou, said the conference seeks to promote human rights education, create the opportunity for human rights activists to network and equip Ambassadors and Promotors in Ghana and other parts of Africa to become more effective at both the national and continental levels.
He added that the conference will also create a common platform to share experiences in Human Rights promotions through various human rights projects and to train participants in developing and sustaining Human Rights Projects and sharpening their skills for community-based Human Rights activism.

Professor Jared Onyari is a qualified and experienced executive with twenty years track record of excellent performance in Peace Building and Conflict Transformation, democracy and human rights, labour Relations, Management in Project Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Climate change, strategic planning, program design, monitoring and evaluation.
As advocacy, networking, environment and waste management research expert, Prof. Onyari is exposed to meeting high-performance parameters, delivering quality results and establishing rapport with stakeholders including colleagues, management and industry players.
He is a dedicated and motivated team player with excellent problem solving, negotiation, training, facilitation, leadership, oral and written communication skills that apply well in my work.
Prof Onyari is a graduate of BA. Economics and Geography of Egerton University; MBA, University of Nairobi and MA, Development studies at St Pauls University. Currently, PHD candidate at Kisii University doing Peace and conflict studies.
After graduating in 1994, he started his professional career at Hilton International Hotel where he worked for four years. He was elected in 1998 the as the first Secretary General of Kenya Hotels and Allied Workers Union where he served for six years. During these years he learnt that domestic workers continue to face major challenges in Kenya: Physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and manipulation and lack of occupational health and safety among others and he was able to address them accordingly.
In addition, he has over two years experience in senior positions which have exposed him to global experiences as he interacted with people of diverse ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds.
He was appointed Ambassador for Peace by Universal Peace Federation between 2012 and 2014; Ambassador of World Film Institute and Olympia Arts; President of Africa Institute of peace, President of Peace Society of Kenya.
He is currently the President and founder East Africa Peace Federation, Chief Goodwill Ambassador for Global Village Forum Chakwal IGO .
In 2014, he was appointed International Professor by United Graduate College and seminary international in the field of peace.
