The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, believes that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have successfully held onto the Assin Central parliamentary seat if Kennedy Agyapong had decided to contest in 2024.

During an interview on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, Fordjour emphasized Agyapong’s distinct ability to win over voters and his track record of success in the constituency.

Hon. Fordjour acknowledged the challenges Agyapong faced in recent elections, saying, “Kennedy has his own way of winning, even though the last two elections were not easy for him.”

He added that Agyapong’s approach to staying connected with the people and ensuring their support had made him a key figure in Assin Central. “A change of candidate was also a factor,” he noted.

Reflecting on the loss, Fordjour expressed disappointment, saying, “The Assin Central we have held all this while, and we thought we would retain it. Unfortunately, we lost it as well.”

Kennedy Agyapong, who had consistently secured the seat for the NPP, opted out of the 2024 parliamentary race to focus on the party’s presidential primaries. According to Fordjour, Agyapong’s absence from the ballot played a pivotal role in the NPP’s unexpected defeat in the constituency.
