The internal rift within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has deepened as presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has responded fiercely to recent disparaging remarks made by Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
Speaking during an interview on Metro TV, Agyapong did not mince words, expressing deep disappointment at what he described as a public show of disrespect from a long-time friend he once supported.
“What happened at Berekum, the way Abronye insulted me… he is a good friend I have helped,” Agyapong recounted. “But because of politics, he feels emboldened to talk to me anyhow.”
The outspoken legislator pushed back against suggestions that he should remain silent in the face of such attacks, asserting that keeping quiet would betray who he is.
“Everybody says don’t say anything. That, I would not accept. If Kennedy Agyapong is quiet, it doesn’t mean I would let anybody take me for granted. That is not Kennedy Agyapong,” he emphasized.
Agyapong said silence would amount to dishonesty on his part and drew a vivid comparison using a reference to boxing legend Mike Tyson.
He recalled an incident where Tyson’s then-wife insulted him during an interview without him realizing it, which eventually led to their divorce. “That’s the effect of hidden disrespect,” Agyapong noted.
Wrapping up his concerns, he said Abronye’s comments were filled with veiled insults and insinuations that he could not simply ignore. “I’m not illiterate, but I don’t even understand the insinuations Abronye was casting for me to be quiet,” he added.
The public fallout between Agyapong and Abronye underscores the growing tension and division in the NPP as internal battles over loyalty and leadership heat up ahead of the 2028 elections.
