Supporters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Ken Ohene Agyapong have strongly criticized Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye over recent comments described as divisive and damaging to the party’s unity.
The criticism follows Abronye’s appearance on Wontumi Radio on Friday, May 2, where he reportedly made unprovoked attacks on Ken Agyapong. The remarks have sparked widespread concern within the party, especially among those advocating for internal cohesion ahead of the 2028 elections.
In a press release, Ken Agyapong’s camp expressed disappointment, calling Abronye’s statements “regrettable” and out of touch with the NPP’s need for solidarity.
“As a party grounded in democracy, we must be careful with the words we use, especially when addressing fellow members,” the statement read. “We have forgiven him, but the focus must be on building, not tearing each other down.”
The group reminded supporters that the real political opponent is not within the party but the National Democratic Congress (NDC). “If we want to win in 2028, our energy must go toward defeating the NDC, not attacking ourselves,” they added.
They also called for calm and urged all party supporters to avoid retaliating or engaging in public fights. “Ken won’t respond in kind. We won’t feed the chaos,” the statement said, reinforcing their message of peace, discipline and party unity.
The statement concluded with a call for all NPP members to redirect their focus towards rebuilding the party and presenting a united front in the lead-up to the next general election.
