The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed his deep sadness over the recent fire outbreak that ravaged several trading shops in Adum, the Central Business District of the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
In a press release dated March 25, 2025, Ken Agyapong extended his heartfelt condolences to the affected traders and families who lost their livelihoods in the tragic incident.
“I am deeply saddened by the fire outbreak that has destroyed several trading shops in Adum… My heart goes out to all the hardworking traders and families who have lost their livelihoods in this tragic incident,” he stated.
He acknowledged the immense effort required to build a business and the pain of seeing it all taken away in an instant.
As a businessman himself, Kennedy Agyapong understands the struggles of entrepreneurs and the importance of supporting them.
He emphasized the need for collective action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
“Market fires have become too frequent in our country, and it is time to take real action… We need safer markets, better emergency access, and reliable fire prevention systems. Protecting our traders means protecting Ghana’s future,” he stressed.
Kennedy Agyapong called on the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, and all relevant state security agencies to work together to find lasting solutions to the problem of market fires.
He also announced that he has dispatched a team to the affected area to assess the situation and provide support.
Upon his return to the country, he plans to personally visit the market to meet with the victims and traders to discuss the way forward.
In a message of hope and resilience, Kennedy Agyapong urged the people of Kejetia, Adum, Dr. Mensah, and Roman Hill not to lose hope. “Ghana is strong because of its people, and together, we will rebuild… Let us unite, support one another, and work to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he said.
The fire outbreak in Adum has sparked widespread concern and debate about the need for improved fire safety measures and emergency response systems in Ghana’s markets.
