Ghanaian music producer JMJ has opened up about the real reasons behind Kaakie’s departure from his Xtra Large Music label, dismissing long-standing rumors of mismanagement or conflict.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, JMJ revealed that while Kaakie was undeniably gifted, her heart was never fully set on pursuing music as a lifelong career.
“She loved music, but she wasn’t passionate about it,” he said, clarifying that her exit had nothing to do with money issues or disagreements. “I remember hearing Abeiku Santana ask her on air if I had misused her money or done anything bad to her, and she said no.”
JMJ noted that Kaakie’s time was often divided between her music and her studies. As a university student pursuing nursing, her demanding academic schedule left little room for recording and performing.
“Kaakie didn’t have much time for music, but she was so talented that just 10 minutes in the studio would amaze you,” he recalled. “Balancing nursing school and a music career wasn’t easy, and she never saw music as something she would do long term.”
Despite stepping away from the industry, Kaakie recently hinted at a comeback, signaling a possible return to active music soon.
Her story is a reminder of how talent alone isn’t always enough, timing, passion, and life priorities also play key roles in sustaining a music career.
