JUST IN : WASSCE To Start In August – The Minister of Education

The Minister of Education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has revealed that final year students in Senior High Schools will sit for their final exams on August 3 after six weeks of studies then five weeks for WASSCE.

According to the ministry, final year SHS students are to report to school on June 22, 2020, to prepare for their exit exams.

“They will be there for academic work and revision for six weeks, do their West Africa Examination Council, the Ghana exams that we understand will take five weeks,” he added.

He stated that the WAEC Ghana office has been consulted to set unique questions for various countries since others in the sub-region are tackling the pandemic and its effects differently.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has also directed all boarding schools Heads to make provisions for all final year day-students to be in a boarding house as one of the measures taken to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 as the government eases restrictions on the social gathering.

“All day students in boarding school will be accepted as borders”, he said.

“That means all schools that are operating as boarding schools as well, those day students would have been accepted as boarders,” he explained.

And for typical day schools, he noted that “there will be enhanced protocols to take care of the children.”

The Minister also directed that there should be no assemblies, religious activities, or any mass gatherings when the schools re-open.

School with equally be closed to visitors during the stay in period for final year students all in a bid to prevent an outbreak in the institutions.

In a televised address, the President announced the re-opening of schools and universities to allow final year students to begin classes ahead of the conduct of their respective exit examinations.

During his 10th televised address, the president said, “Indeed, final year university students are to report to their universities on 15th June; final year senior high school (SHS 3) students, together with SHS 2 Gold Track students, on 22nd June; and final-year junior high school (JHS 3) students on 29th June.”
