Joyce Bawa Mogtari, a former Deputy Minister for Transport and current Presidential Staffer and Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, has come under fire from New Patriotic Party (NPP) activists over her purchase of a state vehicle at a ridiculously low price.
The controversy began when documents surfaced on social media showing that Joyce Bawah Mogtari purchased a Toyota Avensis vehicle with registration number GT 2435-14 for GH¢14,700 on January 6, 2017, a day before handing over to President Akufo-Addo.
The vehicle was part of her end-of-service benefits as a political appointee.
The New Patriotic Party, NPP netizens quickly took to social media to criticize Mogtari, accusing her of corruption and hypocrisy.
They questioned how she could purchase a state vehicle at such a low price, and why she was not being held to the same standards as other government officials.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari responded to the criticisms, stating that the acquisition of the vehicle was done in full compliance with her conditions of service and the law.
