The Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has strongly condemned the Ashanti Regional Minister for publicly criticizing the Ghana National Fire Service during the recent Adum fire incident.

Fordjour emphasized that the firefighters, who risked their lives to save both property and lives, should be commended for their efforts, especially given the limited resources at their disposal.

In his statement, Fordjour questioned the government’s spending priorities, pointing to the significant funds allocated to the Communications Department of the Presidency.

He suggested that some of these funds, including the Ghc78.8 million earmarked for the Ministry of Government Communications, could have been better allocated to the Ghana National Fire Service.

This, he argued, would enable the procurement of modern firefighting equipment, such as advanced fire tenders, to improve the service’s effectiveness in handling fire emergencies.

Fordjour also linked the ongoing power outages (Dumsor) to the fire in Adum, questioning whether the blaze could have been prevented if the government had resolved the electricity issues in the region.

In a tweet addressing the situation, Fordjour remarked, “The Ashanti Regional Minister is venting frustration at the fire service, while Dumsor continues to impact our communities.

The focus should be on enhancing public safety and investing in resources to prevent such disasters, rather than placing blame.”

He concluded by offering his condolences to the affected traders and urging the government to prioritize public safety over unnecessary expenditures.
