A former Deputy Minister of Communication and Aide to former president John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described as nonsense allegations that assigns of NDC were behind the Tema-Mpakadan train accident.
On Thursday, April 18, one of the newly acquired trains was involved in an accident during a site acceptance test run on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line in the Asuogyaman district. The incident happened when the moving train hit a truck which was packed across the railway line by an unnamed driver currently in police custody.
Following the incident, sympathizers of both NPP and NDC began to trade accusations. Some NDC sympathizers believe government intentionally sabotaged the train’s test run in order to create an avenue to use state funds.
Sympathizers of the ruling party, on the other hand claim the accident was the work of NDC to derail progress in the railway sector.
However, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said accusing the NDC of being behind the incident is nothing but “partisan immaturity.” According to him, there was a need for safety checks to be conducted on the track before the test run starts. Due to the lack of due diligence in conducting the test run, he said anyone involved in the planning process must either resign or be fired.
“Elsewhere, everyone involved in the test will either be fired or resign for such a failure,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.
“The claim that anyone in the NDC is interested in hindering the success of the Tema to Mpakadan project is pure nonsense born out of partisan immaturity,” Mr. Ofosu wrote in a social media post sighted by Awakenewsroom.
Mr. Ofosu further argued that the train project was initiated by the erstwhile Mahama administration. He said it thus beats intelligence to think the NDC or its sympathizers carried out the sabotage work on the rail track.
“To begin with, that whole project is only taking place because the NDC government under John Mahama, found $398 million for its execution. How would we want a project to fail if we found money for it in the first place?,” the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) constituency parliamentary candidate asked.
