Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, has confirmed that thorough investigations by security agencies found no evidence of wrongdoing on two “suspicious flights” allegedly involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
These claims were initially made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee and MP for Assin South.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that security agencies conducted comprehensive investigations, submitting reports on April 2, just a day after Fordjour’s allegations.
“He made this allegation on the 1st of April… By the 2nd of April, relevant agencies had submitted reports on exactly what happened at the airport between the times that the aircraft arrived and when they left,” Ofosu stated.
These findings were corroborated by documentary evidence, providing conclusive proof of no illicit activity on the flights.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) also refuted the allegations, clarifying that:
Landing Permits: Issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and National Security, not GACL.
Security Inspections: Conducted by Aviation Security and National Security personnel.
Ground Handling Services: Provided by Swissport.
GACL’s Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, denied any involvement with Rev. Ntim Fordjour, stating she has “never met or had any communication” with him.
The company warned that it will pursue legal action to protect its reputation and that of its Managing Director, urging the public to disregard the “malicious and baseless” accusations.
In related news, GACL has threatened to sue media outlets and individuals spreading false information about the alleged drug trafficking incident.
