The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has questioned President Nana Akufo-Addo’s commitment to fighting corruption in the country.

Hours after Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng cleared former President John Mahama of any wrongdoing in the Airbus bribery scandal, Mr. Ablakwa stated that President Akufo-Addo has consistently demonstrated political witch-hunting against his opponents.

The lawmaker suggested that the President’s lack of commitment and unwillingness to address the US$34.9 million (GH₵545 million) ambulance spare parts scandal involving his daughter confirms that he is engaged in a witch-hunting mission.

He said “It is quite astonishing to learn from the OSP’s report, which exonerated former President Mahama, the extent to which President Akufo-Addo went in referring Mahama to the OSP and requesting collaboration with its UK and other foreign counterparts for a prompt inquiry.”

The MP further challenged the President saying “If President Akufo-Addo wants us to believe that he was not on a frenzied witch-hunt of his predecessor, can he demonstrate same zeal and commitment in the ongoing OSP investigations into the conduct of the politically exposed business partners of his daughters in the sleazy US$34.9million (GH₵545million) ambulance spare parts scandal?”

Ablakwa reiterated that “The fight against corruption cannot be won if a President consistently turns a blind eye to massive corruption within his government and his family but suddenly becomes a busybody when he thinks he’s found a golden opportunity to crucify political opponents”.
