In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is recognizing the achievements made by women journalists both in Ghana and globally.
The GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, acknowledged his support for female journalists who are breaking down boundaries and influencing stories.
In a statement, he said, “On this International Women’s Day, I stand in solidarity with all women especially women journalists in Ghana and around the world who are breaking barriers and shaping narratives”.
“Today, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of women in journalism, recognizing their resilience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to truth,” he noted.
The GJA has a long history of promoting women’s participation in journalism.
In 1996, Mrs. Gifty Affenyi-Dadzie became the first woman to be elected President of the GJA, serving three consecutive terms.
She paved the way for other women to take on leadership roles in the association.
Today, women journalists in Ghana continue to make significant contributions to the field.
They are recognized for their resilience, creativity, and commitment to truth.
The GJA is committed to supporting women journalists and promoting gender equality in the media industry.
As part of its efforts to promote women’s participation in journalism, the GJA has established the Gifty Affenyi Dadzie Award for Best Female Journalist in Gender Responsive Reporting.
This award recognizes outstanding women journalists who have made significant contributions to gender-responsive reporting.
The GJA’s celebration of International Women’s Day is a testament to its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality in the media industry.
