President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has highlighted that the decision to reduce the scale of this year’s Independence Day celebrations has saved the country a significant amount of money.

The cost of this year’s celebration was Ghc 1.5 million, a sharp contrast to the Ghc 20 million that would have been spent had the event been held at the Independence Square.

Mahama believes that scaling down the celebration did not diminish its importance or spirit. He emphasized that his return to office was intended to promote modesty and careful management of the country’s resources.

He also noted that last year, Ghana spent Ghc 15 million on the celebration, compared to Ghc 13 million the year before.
