Renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has expressed his frustration over Ghana’s ongoing development struggles, despite the country marking its 68th Independence Day.

On March 6, 2025, Manasseh took to social media to voice his disappointment, stating: “I’m not happy that at 68, we cannot clean our cities, keep lights on, have our taps flowing, and rid our forests of galamseyers.”

His words reflect widespread concerns about Ghana’s persistent challenges, including poor sanitation, unreliable power supply, lack of access to clean water, and the destructive impact of illegal mining (galamsey) on forests and water bodies.

As the nation celebrated its independence with parades and speeches, Manasseh’s post sparked renewed conversations about the country’s progress since gaining independence in 1957.

Many social media users echoed his sentiments, urging leaders to focus on sustainable development and effective governance. Manasseh’s comments served as a stark reminder that, while Independence Day is a moment for national pride, there is still much work to be done to address the country’s longstanding issues.
