The Tema Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) says the breaking of walls around some public schools in the metropolis is “the work of an enemy.”

As part of moves to protect public school lands and provide security to pupils while in school, Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La has started the walling of public schools in the Tema.

The laudable project was started by his predecessor, however, a couple of the walls around some of the schools have either peeled off, weak or parts broken.

When the issue was brought to his attention at the First Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Seventh TMA, the MCE said the observation was not as a result of shoddy.

“I suspect sabotage. My staff knows how strict I am when it comes to ensuring that proper service is delivered for value for money, and so, I don’t suspect shoddy work from the contractors,” Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La said.

Answering a question on the abandoned Tema General Hospital (TGH) morgue, Mr Anang-La said the facility, which was completed about three years ago but left unoccupied, had developed some cracks and had no equipment to make it operational.

He said the Assembly had completed the tender stage and said documentations are ready to award the contract for work to begin on the mortuary. In spite of these, the TMA registered successes in 2018 including improved revenue mobilisation.

The TMA ‘s total receipts, in terms of revenue, stood at GHȻ29,298,237.44, and out of this, its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) mobilisation stood at GHȻ19,003,276.88, constituting about 95 per cent of its estimated GHȻ19,939,100.54.

“Fifty per cent of non-performing revenue items improved drastically within the last quarter of 2018 due to the efforts of the Assembly’s Revenue Mobilisation taskforce,” Nii Anang-La said.

As at December 31, 2018, TMA had achieved physical progress of 895km of various capacities of drains.

The MCE appealed to institutions, which can support the Assembly to develop the inner roads in their areas of operations, to contact the Metropolitan Coordinating Director for further discussions.

On the improvement of physical and spatial development, he said all streets and parcels within the Tema metropolis have been digitised within Communities 1 to 12, except Communities 2, 3 and 5 which are now in Tema West Municipal Assembly.

In total, he said about 900 streets and 12,600 parcels have been identified and validated.

Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La paid tribute to few companies which have adopted a school each to develop to meet modern standards under his ‘Tema Restoration’ agenda.

He lauded Tema Lube Oil for putting up a police station around its enclave to improve security.

“We need such committed companies in our metropolis to assist the assembly develop Tema,” he said in conclusion.
