The Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amos Blessing Amorse has vented his venom once again on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akufo Damapre saying his is using the Police letterhead to lie to Ghanaians that the Police Officer that stormed the Madina MP’s church to pick intelligence and not to arrest him.
Reacting to the press statement from the Police on the reports on the arrest of the Madina MP, Francis Sosu at his Church today, He said “Read this rubbish from Dampare’s Police. Plain clothed personnel were at the Church premises to pick intelligence? Funny! I thought Dampare says he’s a man? He’s afraid of the possible onslaught on him from Parliament’s Privileges Committee so he’s using Police letterhead to lie that personnel were there to pick intelligence.”
“I was there and the Police officer together with the landgaurds who came there stated categorically that they were there to arrest Sosu.” – Amos said in the Facebook post.
“Shame on Dampare. If this is how he wants to go, there his record will be worse than the worse IGP we’ve witnessed so far.” – he fumes.
The Police in the said statement has stated that “The MP, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu was invited on the day of the protest to assist the Police for his alleged involvement in the unlawful blockade of a road and the destruction of public property but he declined the investigation” citing “Parliamentary privileges”
According to the Police “three persons have been interrogated on this matter and we shall continue to use every legal means to interrogate all other suspects including the Honorable MP for Madina”
On Maday, October 25, 2021, some residents of Oyarifa, Ayi Mensah, Otinibi and its environs embarked on a demonstration over the poor state of their roads.
Whiles the MP was addressing the protesters, the some armed Police personnel stormed the grounds to arrest the MP for which the protesters resisted making the MP to escape the arrest.
The MP then reported the matter to the Speaker of Parliament for which the speaker has since constituted a committee to investigate the issues and determine wither the actions of the Police officers were in contempt of Parliament.
The Police then wrote to the Speakers to release the MP for questioning but the Speaker declined the request.
Today, the some Police officers were reported to have stormed the church to arrest the MP but he escaped again by the assistance of the NDC Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak and some youth at the church.
In the latest development, the MP’s Police guard is reported to have been interdicted over his alleged involvement in helping the MP to escape arrest.
