The Vice President of Policy Think Tank, IMANI Africa, has called on President Mahama to disregard pressure to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare.
In a comprehensive nine-point letter, he praised Dampare as the best IGP in his lifetime, highlighting the significant transformation he has led in the Ghana Police Service.
The letter emphasized that Dampare’s leadership has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability, especially during elections, and argued that removing him would negatively impact the nation.
The letter stressed that the removal of IGPs is governed by law and can only occur for misconduct, not at the president’s discretion, with the Supreme Court set to rule on the matter in May 2025.
It also pointed to Dampare’s success in reducing armed robberies, improving security measures, and fostering a safe environment for citizens.
The letter concluded by urging the president to retain Dampare, as his continued leadership would contribute positively to the administration’s legacy and the nation’s security.
