“History does have a way of rewinding itself”. I have always thought this very near-cliche saying was just ‘a saying for saying sake’. I was wrong!
I saw history repeat itself in broad daylight today. Some three years ago in 2015, Manasseh Azure Awuni wrote as heading for his article in his popular folder, “JOSE MOURINHO , JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA AND OSAMA BIN LANDEN”.
( Please be advised that you need to click the link below and read Manasseh’s article to appreciate my heading).
In 2015, John Dramani Mahama was our national chief who would run for re-election the following year and Jose Mourinho was also the ‘Superintendent’ of English premier league club, Chelsea. Osama Bin Landen was long captured four years back in May 2, 2011. Like Chenua Achebe in his book “Things Fall Apart”, Azure could not have gotten a better heading for his article as he sought to reiterate that, the problem of Africa and by extension the world, is simply and squarely a problem of leadership. Azure your heading was apt! Gracias!!!. Indeed the problem of the world is a problem of leadership so that all those nations especially our previous colonial masters have few problems because their leaders have long recognized that, they ought not to fail. For if they fail, the oceans of spectators will blame them for the woes of the masses.
If you read Azure’s article before reversing to read mine, you will appreciate his article sought to state without any form of equivocation that, when nations or groups such as football clubs fail, it is their respective leaders that must bear a greater brunt of the blame burden. This is no far from the piercing truth. In the case of J. Mourinho, he (Azure) stated that he is one of the best coaches global soccer has ever produced. I am a football lover and this I must admit is true though I am a Barcelona fan. Little wonder therefore that his ‘lovers’ refer to him affectionately as ‘the special one’. He indeed was the special one. Alas! Just as Peter Chambers will put it, “NOBODY LIVES FOREVER”, he was yanked when Chelsea was struggling in 2015: Leadership was sacrificed though he was never on the pitch, Azure added. True?
Then Azure proceeded to cite the ‘numerous’ corruptions and scandals that he has always insisted characterized the Mahama led administration and his (Azure) consequent dislike, disgust and revulsion for graft and or same. He cited his favourite cases such as the Ford expedition, Subah, Gyeeda, SADA and Zoomlion Sagas insisting as to support Achebe’s Position on leadership. He suggested Mahama be voted out or sacked and booted out of power like Mourinho and Alhaji Osama Bin Landen. The Alqaedan Osama Bin Landen, the deadliest of all terrorist leaders my generation has ever witnessed was cited as he was killed, that when he was killed as a leader, alqaeda had lost its “omnipotence” and dominance over the fragile globe. Fact or fiction of Azure’s own imaginations?
These were the major points raised by Azure to support his campaign agenda for the man he repeatedly says rode on the ‘high horse’ of incorruptibility to be voted into power; I am referring to then-presidential aspirant of the NPP now his Excellency President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo Addo. It appeared Azure canvass for vote for our sitting president did work magic. He won the general election the following year in 2016. True or could I be hallucinating?
Assuming I were Azure Manasseh Awuni, today, if I were to write this same article, the title would read;” “JOSE MOURINHO, AKUFFO ADDO AND OSAMA BIN LANDEN”. It would still have been valid. Wouldn’t it? Jose Mourinho this year until yesterday, was Manchester United’s (another strong EPL club) leader and they suffered humiliating but excruciating defeats this season. In fact they have become a subject of mockery in this season’s EPL. Mourinho has been fired once more and this time he has been publicly fired. No need for codes like in 2015 when he was fired as chelsea’s manager. Osama Bin Laden too still remains dead and alqaeda is not as powerful. Also, Nana Akuffo Addo’s administration since his assumption to office appears to record more cases of graft within a span of two years. The NPP regime has been smeared in dirty acts of graft except to say Azure may not have noticed them. Corruption and impunity in reckless abundance have both reared their respective ugly heads and has eaten deep into the non-existing moral fibre of Ghana. The acts are also dastardly perpetrated by leaders just like in the erstwhile administration as accused by Azure. They include but not limited to; Kelni GVG Saga, BOST scandal, Fuel evaporation saga, Proximity fee/cash for seats drama, invincible forces recklessness and torture , Armeri renegotiation showmanship, Kenbond fiscal gimmicks, the KofI Awinoor William’s predictive cathedral religiosity and matters arising, the freshly blood delivering Drones tech “pandemonium” and finally Ghana’s $15m embassy edifice at Norway.
If these cases are classified as draft and if we are to apply the rule of thumb, the electorates will cause a deafening commotion in the ballot come 2020. Because leadership has failed just like Manasseh suggested in 2015. The current president will be ousted democratically; Election. The uncomfortable question therefore is, would history repeat itself come 2020? Certainly yes!
No message could have been any clearer.
Well, my message is simple, if history really does repeat itself then, this is a perfect case. And if Manasseh Azure Awuni were a prophet like angel obinim and his comrades in the ‘Jesus industry’, then John Dramani Mahama will be president come 2020.
