A flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah has assured party faithfuls in the Volta region that his leadership would strike a favourable balance between actual work of government and that of the party saying, “I shall move from the presidency to the party headquarters from time to time to listen to party members”.

According to Dr. Spio-Gabrah, who is on tour of the Volta region once the party is in power, the President becomes an automatic leader to the party- superior to the General Secretary and the National Chairperson.

In his view, the previous administration did not do well in combining affairs of the party and that of the government leading to the neglect of party members whose efforts led the party into power.

“I believe it is ideal to separate party work and that of actual governance [ads1]but it’s also important to create the room for party members who would want to see you from time to time. As a President, the convention has been that you become the leader of the party and would have to attend to party members as well.” he noted.

“This was missing in the previous administration, where party stalwarts like former National Chair, Hon. Kwabena Agyei and few others, were restrained from seeing the President from time to time.” he added.

“At every point in time, I will move from the presidency to the party headquarters to listen to these persons. I mean these people will need your help and the best place to meet them is the party office. In fact, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah used this strategy fairly to the advantage of the CPP in the days”. he assured.

Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah, is one of the many who has been campaigning to lead the opposition NDC to the 2020 polls
