Former President John Mahama has issued a statement refuting reports from the Wednesday, April 08, 2021 edition of the Daily Guide Newspaper that he demanded Nana Akufo-Addo to return his brother’s bauxite concession before he, Mahama gets along with him.
In the statement, it is emphatically stated that Mahama never made such a demand. Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu who signed the statement said, the report is “nothing but a figment of the imagination of the editor and his so-called sources”.
This is an inference to the multi-billion long lease bauxite concession that was granted to Ibrahim Mahama’s Exton Cubic a few days prior to Mahama leaving office on 7th January, 2016.
The report had it that the NDC 2020 flagbearer is said to have made some demands from president Akufo Addo before he can allow the Minority Caucus in Parliament to act jointly with the majority group since both sides have 137 members each. Chief among these demands was the return of the Nyinahin Bauxite concession to his brother.

RE- MAHAMA WANTS IBRAHIM BAUXITE BACK
A report in the Wednesday April 08, 2021 edition of the Daily Guide Newspaper, which claims that former President John Dramani Mahama is demanding the return of a bauxite concession to his brother before he will ‘gel’ with the sitting president, is nothing but a figment of the imagination of the editor and his so-called sources.
President Mahama in the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgment on his petition indicated that even though he disagrees with the Court, he was nonetheless bound by the verdict.
What form of ‘gel’ does the government want with President Mahama, and for which reason, he will even consider making any demands?
President Mahama has remained the statesman that he is and has remained true to his commitments to multiparty democracy.
He continues to have respect for the constitutional structures and has at no time made any request, nor suggested any conditions, let alone ask for the return of bauxite concessions by any person or entity as precondition for cooperation with the President.

FELIX KWAKYE OFOSU
OFFICE OF HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA
