Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made a shocking revelation during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “Thank You Tour,” distancing himself from key economic decisions made during the Akufo-Addo administration.
Addressing supporters, Dr. Bawumia stated he was unaware that former President Nana Akufo-Addo had authorized increases in fuel prices, a move that drew heavy public criticism during their time in office.
“I didn’t know President Akufo-Addo increased fuel prices,” he disclosed, suggesting that many decisions associated with economic hardships were made without his involvement.
Dr. Bawumia also cautioned party members and the public against blaming him solely for the NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections.
He argued that the defeat should be attributed to the actions of certain individuals within the party whose decisions negatively affected their electoral fortunes.
“It is unfair to tag me as the cause of the party’s loss. We must be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that some mistakes within our own ranks contributed to our defeat,” he said.
His comments have sparked intense conversations within the political space, highlighting growing tensions inside the NPP as they seek to regroup after a painful electoral setback.
Political analysts believe Dr. Bawumia’s remarks are part of efforts to defend his legacy and reposition himself as the party looks to rebuild for the future.
As the internal debates continue, his statements are expected to fuel further reflection on the leadership decisions that led to the party’s downfall.
