President Nana Akufo-Addo has revived the NPP’s statement that they will not hand over after December 7. The President said on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 that he will not be handing over to someone he has defeated twice at the polls.
President Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call at the Wa Naa while in the region to commission the Kaleo Solar Power Plant, phase 2. He told Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV that he’d return to the region to say good bye, adding that he’ll return with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as his successor.
“Before the election is held, I am going to come here and pay my proper goodbye to you and thank you for the cooperation that I received from you when I was president. God willing, when I come, I will come with the man who is going to be my successor.”
In a subtle dig at former President John Mahama, he said, “Wa Naa, you know that the man I removed from the seat, I cannot have him as my successor. And as a traditional ruler, you understand what I am saying.”
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo assured the Wa Naa that he is committed to ensuring peace before, during and after the 2024 elections.
“Our country is known as the pacesetter for democratic government across the entire continent of Africa. I want to assure you that this year we are going to maintain that reputation. But I need your support and cooperation.
“I want us to work together to make sure that the peace and stability of our country is maintained all through the electioneering period and after,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
