US-based Ghanaian legal practitioner and Accounting Professor, Stephen Kwaku Asare, has condemned the high number of ministers in the current government, saying he could run the country with just 20 ministers if he were president.
[ads1]According to him, the current ministers running the country with President Akufo-Addo are “too many”.
President Nana Akufo-Addo now has a total number of 110 people to serve as ministers, ministers of state and deputies in his administration, the highest in the country’s history.
Touching on a number of pressing issues on Accra based Asempa FM, the legal advocate advised that it would be possible, President Akufo-Addo should cut down on the number of ministers he has appointed.
He opined that some of these ministerial appointments or offices are not supposed to be in existence of which he made reference to a ministerial office as not needed in the governance process of Ghana.
“I recently went to the ministries and I saw this inscription on one of the offices, ‘Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs’…what do you need this ministerial office for? He quizzed.
He also condemned the idea that dual citizenship holders in Ghana cannot hold public offices in Ghana. He said the United States of America has benefitted immensely from dual citizens.
To him, it is about time the constitution was amended to state categorically that dual citizenship holders have been given the chance to hold public offices in Ghana.
