Deputy General Secretary of NDC, Peter Boamah Otukunor

The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor has rubbished and described as fake media reports suggesting that he said: “Free SHS has caused 5,500 teenage pregnancies.”

In an interview with Awake News, Mr. Otokunor said the headline of the publication which was first published on mynewsgh.com and carried by other online portals including GhanaWeb is misleading and only skewed to mislead the public on his presentation on Kumasi-Based Otec Fm.

“It’s is unthinkable, why, how does Free SHS produces sperms to impregnate women?” – quizzed

According to him, the Akufo-Addo led administration must take responsibility for not properly implementing the Free SHS policy leading to the introduction of the double-track system. This double track system he said survey has shown is contributing to teenage pregnancy.

“The last time we conducted a survey in Ghana and realized that averagely in every constituency, 20 teenage girls under the double-track system are pregnant”

He revealed that the survey suggested that the perior for which one track stay at home makes them become vulnerable to social vices.

“if this is not a bad government, then I don’t know another definition of a bad government. They attend school for two months and sit home for three months and that is a cause of the teenage pregnancy”

He empathizes that “Akufo-Addo has lost touch” with issues making him [Akufo-Addo] and the NPP constantly wants to pollute the minds of Ghanaians that ex-President Mahama and the NDC opposed the Free SHS policy.

“You see, our point has always been that students enjoying free SHS are being bitten by mosquitoes because there is no school building to sit in to learn; they are getting pregnant here and there because when their track ends and they go home, they have nothing to do; that is why we were advocating for infrastructure” he said.

“These are some of the reason why John Mahama and the NDC always are of the view that the rest of the 200 Community Day SHS must be completed and more of such schools need to be built to help solve the problem” – He added
