The dream of Ghana emerging as the largest exporter and grower of cashew worldwide is likely to become a reality in the next few years, as Twins 8 Limited, a leading exporter of the nuts, has stormed cashew growing areas in the Brong Ahafo region to support farmers with logistics and other inputs.
The idea comes after the current government’s decision to invest in cashew plantation, with the launch of a 10-year Cashew Development plan to revamp the cashew industry, a move that was seen by many as the right path to diversifying the agriculture sector.
Twins 8 limited, who has over the years earned the accolade “the cashew people’’, for the first time has captured major cashew growing areas in the BrongAhafo region, such as Sampa, Wenchi, Nkrankwanta, Techiman and others.
Most farmers in those areas have so far received advanced payments of their produce, worth over three million Ghana cedis, and other benefits such as fertilizers and cashew seedlings.
“the expectation is that, cashew farmers will be motivated to see the essence of cashew plantation and Agriculture as a whole, cashew production has so many to offer Ghanaians and I want to take the opportunity to encourage farmers in other fields also divert into cashew. Although there are challenges, such as resourcing farmers with logistics like jute sacks, and other protective wears, cashew production, apart from its health benefits is very lucrative, and let me take this opportunity to plead with government not to relent on its agenda to push cashew growing forward’’, Mr. Edward Danso, one of the Directors of Twins 8 Limited has said, in an interview with the Free Press.
On his part, Mr. Edmund Danso, another Director of the company, also explained that “With our sub-offices and warehouses across all cashew growing areas in Ghana, we aim at ensuring that we sell raw cashew nuts of the highest quality to our various customers in Europe and the United States of America. Our aim of establishing Twins 8 Company Limited is not only to generate revenue and maximize profit but also to favorably compete against other exporters across the world’’.
According to him, “our brand stands out as one of the most reliable cashew nut exporters since 2014. In order to achieve this, we have gone the extra mile to ensure good relationship with local farmers, sensitize them occasionally, through organized workshops with the help of resourced persons from the Ministry of Agriculture, non-governmental organizations and other private stakeholders.
With the current government’s agenda, to make Ghana the leading producer of cashew, Twins 8 Company Limited is poised to ensure through its Corporate and Social Responsibilities; continue to give support in the form of loans, fertilizers and other farm tools to local farmers, a move to strengthen government’s one District one Factory initiative’’.
