With just the last game of the season and Dreams FC’s pending match, Accra Hearts of Oak occupies the 14th spot on the table with 42 points, the same as Dreams FC which has an outstanding game and one more than Great Olympics.
As it stands, only Real Tamale United and Bofoakwa Tano are guaranteed to go down. However, from 11th to 16th which include Heart of Lions (44, +5) points and goals respectively, Legon Cities (44, -9), Karela (43, -7), Hearts of Oak 942, +3), Dreams FC (42, +1) and Great Olympics (41, -3), any of them could be relegated depending on the outcome of the results on the final day.
Dreams FC will clear their outstanding match against RTU on Wednesday before the final round of matches. A win would take them to 45 points, ultimately securing their Premier League status for next season. That would leave 5 teams to battle for safety on the final day.
Three of the survival matches including Hearts of Oak’s game are away matches. Three or potentially two depending on Dreams FC’s midweek results are at home.
Great Olympics vs RTU
Bechem United vs Hearts of Oak
Berekum Chelsea vs Heart of Lions
Great Olympics has hope because they beat RTU away from home this season and the Northern Blues have nothing to play for except pride so the motivation may be low.
Hearts of Oak on the other hand also face a Bechem United side that has nothing to lose than pride. It must be noted that the Phobians beat the Hunters 1-0 this season and would be looking to complete the double over them. The last time Hearts of Oak went to Bechem United’s home, it ended in a 1-0 defeat for the former African champions.
Heart of Lions and Legon Cities do not have much to worry about as draws are enough to secure their status for next season.
Karela United is the other team that must win to retain its Premier League status for next season.
