Former Chairman of the Hajj Board, Hon. Ben Abdallah, has clarified that the Hajj Village under construction is a legacy project initiated by the previous Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo government.

This statement comes amid the current government’s plans t cut sod for the same project, raising concerns of credit-taking. Abdallah emphasized that while the project was started under the former government, it was kept low-key due to its religious significance.

He explained that the project began in 2017, when the Nana Addo-led government, through the late Minister for Aviation Kofi Adda, responded to the Ghana Hajj Board’s appeal for a suitable Hajj Village.

The construction site, located opposite the Action Chapel on the Spintex Road, was chosen, and the contract was awarded in 2024 to MAWUMS Company after the necessary approvals.

Abdallah urged the current government to acknowledge the project’s origins and refrain from claiming it as their own. He referred to the project as a sacred legacy, which is why it had been launched with minimal fanfare.

Construction is already in progress, and the designs and images of the project were shared to further substantiate his statement.
