The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has alleged that the Akufo-Addo-led government has compiled a list of 10,000 loyalists to be recruited into the Ghana Police Service.
According to him, the government is carrying out this exercise so that those recruited can be deployed on election day to serve the interests of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The former lawmaker further claimed that when the minority in Parliament challenged the secret recruitment, the Minister for Interior, Henry Quartey, attempted to “bribe” them with two recruitment slots each.
Speaking on JoyNews‘ “PM Express” program on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Mr. Nketia said, “…now they have the list of 10,000 people that have been shortlisted. It is on the desk of the Interior Minister, and he’s trying to find a way of making sure these people get recruited into the security services.”
He added that “At some point, the Interior Minister himself went to Parliament to try to bribe our MPs that look, ‘if you like bring 2…people from your constituencies let’s add them so that you allow me to [go ahead with the recruitment], and they rejected it flatly.”
Months ago, minority MPs raised the alarm over secret recruitments into various security services. However, the government denied being behind any secret recruitment of party loyalists into any of the security services.
