[dropcap]A[/dropcap] group calling itself Alliance For Social Equity & Public Accountability, ASEPA is alleging that several reports and complaints received reveals some workers in the public service who were seen actively to be supporting the NDC party in the 2016 general elections have their names intentionally removed from the payroll.

In a statement signed Mr. Mensah Thompson, Executive Secretary of ASEPA, is giving 48 hours ultimatum to the Controller and Accountant General to publish all the reported 26,000 plus names in the national gazette, with the institutions on whose payroll those names exists, and any contact details attached to the names.

[ads1]ASEPA though supports government efforts in cleaning the payroll of ghost names which is causing the nation billions of cedis, it still hold the view that this should be done without the touch of political color.

“NAGRAT has come out with a claim that an estimated 13,900 of the 26,000 plus names supposedly removed by government are its members, Other unions and its members have also raised serious issues about the whole process including CLOGSAG and TUC.” Mr. Mensah said

“This is an unfortunate incident especially in this period of advancement in democracies, we can still experience situations such as these and others like laying off workers who legally employed by the previous administration.” – he added

PRESS RELEASE

PUBLISH GHOST NAMES REMOVED FROM THE PAYROLL IN THE NATIONAL GAZETTE, ASEPA URGES GOVERNMENT AS SOURCES REVEALS VICTIMIZATION OF NDC TEACHERS

The government’s attempt to clear its payroll off ghost names is a valid move, Ghost names costs the country in excesses of about 500 million Ghana cedis every year.

Between 2005 and 2015 an estimated 15billion cedis was reported to have been lost due to our bloated payroll and this indirectly contributed to the reasons why IMF as part of its home grown fiscal consolidation program with the country urged government to cut public sector recruitments except to the security services.

Therefore cleaning our payroll is a better way to seal the leakages and make way to create employment for our young people.

However the processes and procedures employed by this government to clean the payroll leaves a lot to be desired.

Several reports and complaints received reveals how some workers in the public service who were seen actively to be supporting the NDC party in the general elections have their names intentionally removed from the payroll.

NAGRAT has come out with a claim that an estimated 13,900 of the 26,000 plus names supposedly removed by government are its members, Other unions and its members have also raised serious issues about the whole process including CLOGSAG and TUC.

This is an unfortunate incident especially in this period of advancement in democracies, we can still experience situations such as these and others like laying off workers who legally employed by the previous administration.

We therefore call on the Controller and Accountant General to within 48 hours publish all the reported 26,000 plus names in the national gazette, with the institutions on whose payroll those names exists, and any contact details attached to the names.

We also want the CAGD to open formal investigations into the matter and prosecute anybody found to be complicit in this fraudulent activity.

We want to see some transparency in the whole process,We cannot sit down and fold our arms whiles government uses a legitimate process intended to save the country money but only as a conduit to punish workers who supporters its political opponents in the 2016 elections.

Any teacher or worker who has their names unfairly removed from the payroll should contact us and volunteer information.

Government needs to sit up, there are a lot challenges confronting the people we expect the government to solve problems not to hound further suffering on the people.

Signed:
Mensah Thompson
