The Acting Head of Primary Division of Morgan International Community School (MICS), Mr. Moses Amoamah Antwi has charged government including all private providers of education in the country to always strive to accord the due attention needed towards the provision of quality education to school children in order to help prepare them for a better future.

He also underscored the need for similar approach to be given towards the provision of facilities, equipment and materials required in schools to promote teaching and learning.

Mr. Antwi made this known during a speech on the theme: “The Importance of Education to students, parents schools, society and government cannot be over emphasized” at the 6th graduation ceremony of students of Mercy Preparatory and Junior High Schools (JHS) in Accra on Thursday August 2, 2018.

In all 31 students graduated from different stages. Out of that number, 8 JHS 3 students graduated to Senior High School (SHS), while nine (9) primary 6 pupils got enrolled into JHS including the passing out of 14 Kindergarten 2 (KG) pupils into Primary 1.

Mercy Preparatory and Junior School was established in 1994 as a private institute for child education under the able support of a renowned politician by name Nana Nketia to selflessly groom students to achieve academic and moral excellence.

Since its inception the school has achieved a lot in terms of academic and intellectual development of many children in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists, Headmaster of the School, Rev. Simon Darnor identified lack of funds as a key challenge hampering the infrastructural development of the school.

He explained the location of the school (Asylum Down) in Accra has experienced an appreciable level of development; metamorphosed into city where modern offices are heavily erected but due to financial constraints the school is yet to meet the corresponding infrastructural gap in terms of standard.

In addition, the school bus is currently in a bad shape; experiencing frequent breakdown while conveying children to and from school.

A situation, he claimed has really put many parents off, contributing towards withdrawal of their wards to other schools in town.

He therefore appealed to government, philanthropists and benevolent organizations in the country to come to the aid of the school and transform it to meet standard to attract parents to enroll their wards as well as improve upon teaching and learning.

The high point of the ceremony witnessed a primary 3 pupil, Adiza Abdul-Fataa Karim who delivered a 5 pages speech from her memory without looking on paper at the full glare of audience without missing a word.

Her eloquent pronunciation of words backed by impeccable intonation and successful delivery of speech was highly admired and commended by all and sundry.

Her performance even caught the attention of Mr. Moses Antwi, the Guest Speaker of the occasion who instantly surprised her with a gift package of an undisclosed sum of cash to put smile on her face.

Little Adiza’s teacher Ms. Emmanuella Akyianu was all joy when she was summoned on stage with her pupil to receive the present.

Expressing her joy in an interview, she described Adiza as a very brilliant pupil in class. While touting her academic prowess, she averred that Adiza is bound to become a great leader in the near future.

The colourful ceremony witnessed presentation of certificates of merit to the young graduates but the thrill of the occasion came from a delightful line-up of choreographed Ghanaian dances and drama sketches by school children.
