Deputy Minister for Interior Henry Quartey has expressed government’s commitment in making the Ghana Immigration Academy and Training School a well-resourced centre of excellence in the sub-region.

He said government would provide the needed logistics and infrastructure to develop the Immigration Academy and Training School into an internationally acclaimed Immigration Training Centre.

The Minister made this statement during the passing-out ceremony for the recruit intake 22 at the Immigration Service Training School at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

He said “the Immigration School has in the past trained personnel of the Liberia Immigration Service and this international collaboration should be taken to a higher level and my ministry and for that matter government is ready to offer the needed assistance to make this dream of the management of the service a reality.”

He congratulated the passing-out recruits on the successful completion of the training and wished them well as they begin their new career with the Ghana Immigration Service.

He advised the new officers to remain focused and discipline in the performance of their duties and they must eschew all forms of corruption and unprofessional conducts.

The Deputy Minister noted that the Nana Addo led government was committed to progressively and qualitatively ensure that GIS obtains the necessary tools and logistics to contribute its quota to national development.

The recruit intake 22 had 313 officers including 202 male and 111 female. They were admitted in December 2016 and underwent eight months of intensive paramilitary training.

The new officers entertained the crowd with some drill display, unarmed combat and obstacle crossing demonstrations.

At the end of the day, Sebastian Ayisi Elletey was awarded the best in drill male while Portia Takyiwaa who was the parade commander also won the female category for best in drill.

Mackenzie Consider David and Deborah Agbi won the best male and female in physical training while Naomi Datamit Moisob won the most disciplined recruit.

Recruit Jacob Koffie Deku won the best in academics and the overall best recruit award.
