Movement TV presenter Gordon Asare-Badiako has vowed to sue Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng for unlawful arrest.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) placed Gordon under arrest.

This comes on the back of a comment he made on Wontumi Radio, claiming that Kissi Agyebeng had asked the state to buy him a private jet. He was charged with false communication and false publication.

The journalist, who was interviewed about his arrest on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program, said he was unhappy with the OSP’s decision to detain him.

According to him, although he did not receive any formal invitation from the OSP,  he accepted to honour their call, believing they would have a fair discussion, not knowing they had decided to detain him.

“As I was honouring the invitation, I thought we were going to have a fair conversation to explain the issues. Because as a trained journalist, I’m ever ready to retract and apologize on air if I had the opportunity to,” he remarked, saying the OSP’s core mandate, which is to investigate corruption scandals and corruption-related issues, is being abused by Kissi Agyebeng.

He clarified that instead of detaining him, which he believes is illegal, Kissi Agyebeng could have filed a libel complaint against him or even reported the issue to the National Media Commission (NMC).

“I have asked my lawyer to sue him for wrongful detention,” he told host Akwasi Aboagye.

Asare-Badiako is currently on bail by the OSP in the sum of GHC5 million with two sureties. The sureties, Wilberforce Asare of Asaase Radio and Peter Ankomah of Daily Dispatch Newspaper, were required to sign a bond to ensure Asare-Badiako’s appearance in court.

As part of his bail conditions, Asare-Badiako is required to report to the OSP every two weeks.

He is also prohibited from traveling outside the country without the explicit permission of the OSP.
