The national cycling team – Golden Pedals is currently in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa to participate in the 2017 edition of the Tour of Ethiopia which begins today.
The team is expected to return on Saturday, September 2, 2017.
According to the officials from the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), their participation in the Addis Ababa event formed part of efforts to get the team ready for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.
Ghana was represented by six athletes and three officials. The cyclists were; Abdulmumin Abdulrazak – Vital Cycling club, Kumasi (Captain), Anthony Dankwa Boafo Boakye – River Park Cycling club, B/A, Sunyani, Abdul Rahman – City Migro Cycling club, Accra, Abdulrazak Umar – Die Hard Cycling club, Accra, Kusi Clement – River Park Cycling club, B/A, Sunyani and Frank David Awuku Akuffo – Velo stars Cycling club, Accra.
The officials also included Dennis K. Moore (leader of delegation), Daniel Amo (Coach) and Rudolf Mensah – Mechanic.
Ghana’s Anthony Boakye is expected to repeat his performance exhibited at the “La route de l’est” in Cote D’Ivoire last month.
The 22-year-old cyclist clocked a time of 18hrs 49mins 38 secs in the 766.8km race which was competed in 11 stages.
He snatched the Ultimate Jersey from Ivorian Daniel Kabre who was initially in hold of the Jersey since the beginning of the tour at the semi-final stage of the championship with a time difference of 1mins 22secs.
He proceeded to maintain the Jersey at the finals stage with the same time difference.
